Water, Weed, and Wait--Guest Interview

Check out the Writing on the Sidewalk blog. They punnily interviewed me about how Angela and I "grew" Water, Weed, and Wait (Tricycle, August 2010).

It's a helpful, insightful, encouraging blog for children's writers.

Daffys Are Up/Tweet About School Gardens

Growing up in Michigan, we looked for the brave crocuses the put their heads up through snow about this time of the year. Here in CA, our daffodils are popping out--regular and minis. And they just keep multiplying.

Do you have bulbs in your school or community garden? Let us know what's growing.

Note that School Garden Weekly will have a school garden Twitter chat this Thursday, Feb. 10. Info at

We've had fun talking with kids and families about Water, Weed, and Wait. We'll be at Rosebank Elementary in Chula Vista on November 30 talking with students about the book and gardening.

Take a minute to see if the kids you hold dear can identify common seeds—lima bean, pumpkin, and radish, for instance.

My AAUW branch held a lively event on November 6—Authors and Appetizers. Chris Reich talked about his best-selling books of international intrigue. Nan Sterman shared her gardening expertise—you may have heard her on These Days on KPBS. I talked about writing books for children and building school gardens. A very successful event providing scholarships for women and girls.

We're thankful for all of you who sent us copies of the article Diane Welch wrote about us and the book in the San Diego Union-Tribune on November 4. Thanks, Diane!

Greetings, gardeners and book lovers. While we've been setting up the web site and blog for our new Water, Weed, and Wait, we have not been idle.

These blog posts may look as though they all happened on one day, but they're accumulated. So check out the dates.

We invite everyone to visit the beautiful, interactive Hamilton Children's Garden at San Diego Botanic Garden (formerly Quail) in Encinitas on Sunday, September 19 from 2-4:30 p.m. We'll do several readings of the book and give kids seeds to grow at home. Great for families, and a nice way to celebrate Grandparents Day.

Get those fingers dirty!

Love it!

I love the new book!  Thanks for thinking of our schools and for writing a book that is entertaining and practical.  Cant wait to get a gardening project started at my local school.
